NDA Exam Eligibility 2023: NDA is the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces where selected candidates from all three services i.e. Army, Navy, and Air Force get trained together at the NDA. After completing the basic training, the candidates then go to their respective academies to prepare for their commissioning. The NDA exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission twice a year between April and September of each year.

A few years ago, UPSC conducted the NDA examination to select male candidates for various services, but since 2021, UPSC has made female candidates eligible for the examination. It is our intention to discuss the eligibility criteria for the NDA examination in detail in this article. Those who have successfully passed the written test will be invited to the SSB interview.

NDA Exam Eligibility 2023

For the NDA 2023 selection criteria to be satisfied, the candidates need to fulfill four major aspects in order to be considered for the final selection. The criteria are as follows:

  1. NDA Age Limit, Marital Status & Gender
  2. NDA Citizenship/Nationality
  3. NDA Educational Qualification
  4. NDA Physical/ Medical Qualification

NDA Age Limit 2023

Applicants must be between 16 and 19 years old, i.e., they must have been born between 02nd July 2004 and 1st July 200 To qualify for the NDA, candidates must be 16 years old and under 19 years old. Here is a list of the details that UPSC has provided on the age limit for the NDA. See below for important details and a table.

When filling out the application form, the date of birth mentioned must be the same as the date of birth stated on the matriculation certificate or secondary school leaving certificate that is attached to the application form.

For the purpose of applying for the NDA examination, only unmarried candidates are eligible to do so.

It is necessary for candidates to be born between 02nd July 2004 and 1st July 2007 so that they are eligible to participate in the contest.

NDA Educational Qualification 2023

It is mandatory for candidates to meet the educational requirements as prescribed by the UPSC in order to be eligible to participate in the NDA scheme. Before applying for the NDA scheme, make sure that you check the educational requirements given below in the table:

Army Wing Pass certificate of class 12’th via recognized board or a University.
Air Force and Naval Wings Pass certificate of class 12’th via recognized board or a University with Physics and Mathematics.
10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy Pass certificate of class 12’th via recognized board or a University with Physics and Mathematics.

NDA Nationality 2023

A candidate who wishes to participate in the NDA must meet the following eligibility criteria. In the case that the candidate fails to meet any of the nationality criteria given below, his/her candidature will be terminated at any point during the selection process. There are a number of nationality criteria that candidates must meet in order to be considered for the position:

  • Originally from India, I am a citizen of the United States
  • Whether it is an individual or a group, a Nepalese or Bhutanese subject
  • An Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries such as Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam), and the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar) with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • Tibetean refugees who migrated to India and settled here permanently before 1st January 1962 are considered refugees from Tibet.

NDA Physical Fitness and Medical Standards

In order to be eligible for participation in NDA, candidates must verify the physical and medical standards required to participate in NDA. The requirements for fitness and medical standards are as follows.

It is very important that the candidates are medically fit and do not suffer from any of the following minor diseases.

  1. Piles
  2. Tonsillitis
  3. Gynaecomastia
  4. Varicocele
  5. Wax (Ears)
  6. Deviated Nasal Septum
  7. Hydrocele / Phimosis
  8. Condition of Overweight / Underweight
  9. Under Sized Chest

NDA Physical Standard for Army/Air force

In order to be eligible for the Army, candidates must be 157cms tall and in order to be eligible for the Air Force, candidates must be 165 cms tall. However, there are some exceptions that are permitted depending on the region where they live. Here are some examples.

  • There will be a 5 cms relaxation in the maximum height requirement for candidates from the hilly areas of North India like Kumaon, Garhwal, and Gorkhas.
  • Those living in Lakshadweep region will be given a relaxation of 2cms in their maximum height for the examination.

According to the following table, the standard weight and height for the different age groups are based on the following criteria

Physical Standards for Navy

As part of the NDA process, candidates who wish to join the Navy must meet the following physical standards:

  1. Leg Length: The min. of 99 cm  and maximum of 120 cm
  2. Thigh Length: Max. of 64 cm
  3. Sitting Height: The min. of 81.50 cm  and maximum is 96 cm

NDA Visual Standards for ARMY

There are certain video standards set by the authority that candidates have to meet in order to be eligible for ARMY. You can check the following table to know what visual standards candidates must meet in order to qualify.

Distance Vision (Correct) Better Eye 6/6; Worse Eye 6/9
Colour vision CP-III (Defective Safe).
Myopia should not be more than -2.5D

Hypermetropia should not be more than +3.5D

 Visual Standards for Air Force

For candidates to qualify for the Air Force, they must make sure that they meet the criteria for the vision standard set forth in the following table:

 Visual Standards for Navy

In order to qualify for a Navy position, a candidate must meet a certain vision standard. This vision standard can be found in the table below. It has been established by the authority that candidates who wish to work under the Navy must meet the vision standard.

  1. Uncorrected without glass -6/6, 6/9
  2. Corrected with glass – 6/6, 6/6
  3. Limits of Myopia – –0.75
  4. Limits of Hypermetropia – +1.5
  5. Binocular vision – III
  6. Limits of color perception – I
